Come and visit Vire
Vire - just another market town in Normandy ?
No ! Vire is situated in some of the most beautiful countryside in France and it's right on your doorstep. It offers :

FREEDOM
To drive, walk or cycle off the usual tourist tracks into another world of ancients forests, hidden lakes and streams, and traditional farmland. Local farms produce local food - one the glories of rural France - don't look for organic food - market food is organic !

LOCAL LIFE
local life in Vire is French life - the restaurants are friendly, the markets are everywhere - you can buy your entire Sunday lunch at the market at Martilly on Sunday morning. It reduces the need for planning ! Vire is even more famous than the rest of France for its fabulous charcuterie. You haven't seen a delicatessen until you have visited Vire town centre.

VALUE
Vire is a low cost place in a low cost country. Getting there is quick and easy - an hour from Caen, the capital town of Normandy. A typical three course meal in a local restaurant will cost you about 15 Euros plus wine. A day on a typically un-crowded golf course costs about fifteen pounds. And everywhere there is an absolute emphasis on quality - of food, of work, of play, of relationships, of life.

POSITION
Vire is about four hours drive from the Channel Tunnel - along excellent, open motorways - and across the new Pont de Normandy which takes your car high above the wide mouth of the Seine, as it arrives at the sea. It is one hour from the car-ferry at Ouistreham and about one hour and a half from Cherbourg. You can also fly-drive from London Stanstead. It is easy to visit for a week-end and it is about three - quarters of an hour from the sea-side around Granville, about two hours from the Loire valley, home of Muscadet, Pouilly-Fume and Sancerre, and two and half hours by train to Paris and Disneyland Paris.

ABOVE ALL AN ANTIDOTE FOR STRESS AND A RECIPE FOR A GREAT HOLIDAY
To visit elsewhere is to be temporarily part of someone else's experience. Vire and its region is a natural place, a very French place, and you will be part of it when you are here. If you want peace, yet life, with time to spare to feed the horses, go fishing, play some golf or tennis, take a trip to the sea, sail on a quiet inland lake, wander through a rural landscape and place your family in a land of families and their pursuits, and return renewed, then take some time to visit Vire, Calvados, close to the heart of Normandy, France.
